Multimedia combines different forms of content such as text, graphics, audio, video and animation to communicate information effectively.
Multimedia = Text + Graphics + Audio + Video + Animation
Multimedia is the combination of two or more different types of media such as text, graphics, audio, video and animation, used together to communicate information or provide entertainment.
The word multimedia comes from:
- Multi = Many
- Media = Means of communication
Using several types of media together often makes information easier to understand and remember.
Interactive Multimedia
Interactive multimedia allows users to control what they see, hear or do.
Examples include interactive learning applications, websites and presentations where users click buttons or select options.
Linear Multimedia
Linear multimedia plays from beginning to end without allowing the user to control the sequence.

Multimedia is mainly made from five basic components.
📝 Text
Written words used for information, titles, instructions and explanations.
🖼 Graphics
Still images such as photographs, drawings, icons, diagrams and charts.
🔊 Audio
Sound including narration, music, speech and sound effects.
🎥 Video
Moving visual images, usually combined with synchronized audio.
🎞 Animation
Creates an illusion of motion using a sequence of generated or drawn images.
Text consists of written or printed words used to provide information, instructions and explanations in multimedia.
Text is one of the simplest multimedia components but remains important because it is commonly used for:

Graphics are non-moving visual images used to present information visually.

Examples: JPG, PNG, BMP and GIF.
Vector Graphics
Vector graphics are created using mathematical paths, shapes and lines rather than fixed pixels.
They can be resized without losing quality.
Examples: SVG, AI and EPS.
