 Preface

Significant progress has been made by Nepali authors in improving the understanding level of chemistry books published for higher secondary levels over the past two decades. Despite these different endeavors, it seems challenging for beginners to achieve an insight into various aspects of Chemistry in comprehensive and interactive ways. Moreover, Curriculum Development Centre (CDC), has recently revised the syllabus of grade Xl and incorporated various new education pedagogies for better teaching-learning achievements. It is thus essential that a textbook on chemistry has been developed that presented the text in a simple and engaging manner; to ensure that students achieve clear chemical concepts and principles. “Modern Chemistry” is an approach to fulfill that vacuum. This textbook of chemistry provides a firm foundation, primarily aimed at delivering concepts of chemistry critically. This book is designed to introduce students to the various concepts and principles of chemistry. Students will learn and understand the fundamental concepts and practices of chemistry. This textbook is prepared in line with the curriculum prescribed by CDC for Grade XI. This textbook is a result of years of teaching experience in chemistry for various levels (+2, I. Sc., B.Sc., B. E., Masters, and Ph.D.). With a distinct focus to encompass the objective of this book, contents have been presented in a very straightforward and engaging way. This textbook has been prepared to keep in mind the pulse of the dynamic learning environment and contains the following salient features:

Pictorial representation in different parts of the chapter will provide an outlook on the practical application of chemistry.

Examples are provided in abundance to make students well acquainted with various concepts of chemistry.

Solved Numerical Problems will guide students to solve the chemistry numerical in a perfect and easy way.

Well-drawn and labeled diagrams in every chapter will provide a better illustration of the various concepts of chemistry.

Self-test questions are incorporated in abundance to evaluate the students’ level of understanding after the completion of each section of different units.

Exercises have been designed with reference to the pattern of the exam (Short, Long, Numerical) conducted by the Higher Secondary Education Board. It will help the student to be prepared for the exam in the right way.

Objective questions at the end of every chapter will guide students in for preparing various competitive entrance exams. Project works are provided at the end of each chapter to make learners realize, conceptualize and apply the established principles of chemistry in daily life.

Learning outcomes have been included at the beginning of each chapter.

Nepali names have also been written for some compounds of daily life, in some places.

Index in the last part of the book will help the student to navigate different terms of chemistry.

We hope and believe that the readers will be motivated to embrace the exciting vision that the authors have made in this book. We believe that this book will serve its purpose and will be beneficial not only for the students but also for the instructors. We shall appreciate and acknowledge any valuable suggestions and constructive criticisms for the betterment of the text in the best interest of the learners’. Happy learning.
